IKEA Korea Inaugurates Eighth Store in Daegu to Strengthen Market Presence

Daegu: IKEA Korea announced the opening of its eighth store in Daegu as part of its strategy to expand its footprint in the Korean market and drive sales growth. The new outlet, located inside Shinsegae Department Store near Dongdaegu Station, is designed to serve customers in Daegu and the nearby North Gyeongsang Province.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the opening of the Daegu store represents a significant milestone for IKEA Korea in making its products more accessible to a broader audience. Chief Executive Officer Isabel Puig emphasized the company's commitment to enhancing customer convenience and shopping experience by offering various shopping formats, including traditional stores, urban formats, and online channels.

With this new addition, IKEA Korea now operates a total of eight stores across the country, including one in Seoul, four in the metropolitan area, and three in Busan, Daegu, and Gwangju. The company is set to open its ninth store in Daejeon in November, which is approximately 144 kilometers south of Seoul.

IKEA Korea's first store in Seoul, IKEA Gangdong, opened in 2025, catering to a growing consumer trend of online product research prior to in-store purchases. The Daegu store is unique as it is situated within a shopping mall, differing from IKEA's conventional standalone "blue-box" stores. Currently, five of the company's eight stores in Korea adhere to this blue-box format, located in Seoul, Gwangmyeong, Goyang, Giheung, and Busan.

In its efforts to attract a larger customer base, IKEA Korea introduced next-day parcel delivery services in April and expanded home delivery options to offer more flexible scheduling and service choices.

For the fiscal year ending in August 2025, IKEA Korea reported a 2.2 percent increase in sales, reaching 639.3 billion won (approximately US$434 million), bolstered by its omnichannel strategy that includes a website, mobile app, and phone-based shopping services. Notably, online sales contributed 13 percent to the total revenue. The company aims to achieve 200 billion won in e-commerce sales this year, significantly up from 50 billion won in 2019.
