Incheon:Police have identified the suspect accused of a knife attack at a major commercial complex in Incheon that resulted in injuries to eight people earlier this week. The suspect has been named Choi Choong-rak, a 59-year-old man.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the Incheon Metropolitan Police Agency released Choi's name, age, and mugshot following a committee meeting to decide on the public disclosure of his personal information. The decision to release the information was unanimously approved by the panel, citing the brutality of the crime, the severity of the harm caused, and the availability of sufficient evidence.
The attack occurred on Tuesday, about 30 kilometers west of Seoul, where Choi allegedly attempted to kill 10 people using knives in both hands. Eight people were injured, with one victim remaining unconscious after suffering cardiac arrest, while two others managed to escape unharmed.
Choi, who has 10 previous convictions, including two for attempted murder, reportedly expressed dissatisfaction with medical treatment at a local hospital as his motive for the attack. His personal information will be available on the police agency's website from Friday until November 16.
