Interim CEO of Coupang Apologizes for Data Breach at Parliamentary Hearing

Seoul: The interim head of e-commerce giant Coupang Corp. expressed regret during a parliamentary hearing for a significant data leak involving customers' personal information. Harold Rogers, the interim chief executive officer of Coupang, stated, "I am deeply sorry for the concern that we have created for the Korean people."

According to Yonhap News Agency, Rogers, who formerly served as the chief administrative officer, assumed the interim leadership role for Coupang's South Korea unit following the resignation of his predecessor, Park Dae-jun, who stepped down to take full responsibility for the incident. Rogers emphasized the seriousness of the situation, stating, "We take this matter very seriously, and are working diligently to make sure we respond to your questions, to the concerns of our regulators and to the concerns of our customers."

The parliamentary hearing was convened after Coupang disclosed late last month that the personal information of over 33 million customers had been compromised. The founder of Coupang, Kim Bom-suk, did not attend the hearing, citing official business commitments in his capacity as the CEO of a global company.
