Seoul: Kakao Corp. announced that ChatGPT, a generative artificial intelligence service by OpenAI, is now integrated into the KakaoTalk messaging app. Users can engage with the chatbot through a single tap, sharing AI-generated conversations, images, and text with friends seamlessly.
According to Yonhap News Agency, this integration is the first significant result from the partnership between Kakao and OpenAI, established in February. This move aligns with Kakao’s strategy to join the global AI alliance amidst growing market competition. The service allows existing ChatGPT users to access it within KakaoTalk using their current ChatGPT accounts.
Kakao’s AI agent, Kakao Tools, enhances the ChatGPT for Kakao experience by providing optimized responses. It does so by connecting to Kakao’s suite of applications, which include Kakao Map, Kakao Reservation, Kakao Gift, and Melon. The service is available only to users aged 14 or older to protect underage users.
Kakao plans to extend the ChatGPT for Kakao service to non-Kakao apps and expand its ecosystem. Users have control over data and privacy settings, including options to save conversations or use them to train AI models, the company noted.
