KBO Commissioner Heo Koo-youn Nominated for Second Term

SEOUL - The Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) has announced the nomination of its incumbent commissioner, Heo Koo-youn, for a second term starting in 2024. This decision marks a significant moment for the organization as it prepares for the future leadership of the league.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the board of directors, comprising the presidents of the league's 10 clubs, unanimously agreed to nominate Heo for a three-year term beginning in January 2024. Heo, who will run unopposed, will have his candidacy ratified in a forthcoming vote by the board of governors, which includes the club owners. To be elected, Heo will require the support of at least three-quarters of the owners.

Heo Koo-youn, a seasoned broadcaster, was initially elected as the commissioner in March last year, succeeding Chung Ji-taik, who resigned citing health issues. Initially, Heo was only meant to complete the remainder of Chung's term, which concludes on December 31, 2023. The commissioner's full term is typically three years.
