SEOUL: Kia Corp. announced a 2.1 percent increase in its third-quarter net profit, totaling 2.26 trillion won ($1.6 billion), compared to the same period last year. The company's operating income and sales also saw modest growth, despite falling short of market expectations. According to Yonhap News Agency, Kia reported in a regulatory filing that its operating income for the July-September period rose by 0.6 percent year-on-year to 2.88 trillion won. Sales during this period saw a 3.8 percent increase, reaching 26.51 trillion won. However, these figures did not meet the average net profit estimate of 2.43 trillion won, as projected by analysts surveyed by Yonhap Infomax, the financial data firm of Yonhap News Agency. The earnings report highlights Kia's continued financial growth, albeit at a slower pace than anticipated by the market. The company did not provide specific reasons for the shortfall in meeting market expectations in its filing.
