DENVER — Kim Ha-seong of the San Diego Padres hit his 47th career MLB home run during Saturday's game against the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field, ending his two-month dry spell with a significant milestone.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Kim's homer came early in the game with the Padres down by four runs in the second inning. He connected on a 94.7 mph sinker, sending it 405 feet into the left-field seats, marking his 11th home run of the season and his first since June. This two-run shot elevated Kim to third place among South Korean players in MLB history, surpassing Kang Jung-ho’s 46 homers. Choo Shin-soo holds the record with 218 home runs, followed by Choi Ji-man with 67.
Despite Kim’s efforts and the significance of his achievement, the Padres faced challenges throughout the game, including grounding into four double plays, and ultimately fell to the Rockies 7-3.
