Korean Consortium Secures Nuclear Power Plant Contract in Czech Republic

Seoul: A consortium led by South Korea's Korea Hydro and Nuclear Power Co. has been designated as the preferred bidder for the construction of two nuclear power units in the Czech Republic. This marks a significant milestone for South Korea's nuclear industry, which has not secured an overseas contract since 2009.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the Korean consortium will proceed to sign a final contract for the project in June 2025. This agreement signifies South Korea's first international nuclear power plant contract since the deal to build the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant in the United Arab Emirates. This development is expected to enhance South Korea's reputation in the global nuclear energy sector.

The announcement of the consortium's selection as the preferred bidder underscores the competitive edge and technological capabilities of South Korea's nuclear industry. The project is anticipated to bolster economic and diplomatic ties between South Korea and the Czech Republic, fostering further collaboration in the energy sector.

The successful bid is also a testament to the strategic efforts of Korea Hydro and Nuclear Power Co. and its partners in expanding their reach in the international market. As the world increasingly turns to nuclear energy for sustainable power solutions, South Korea's role in this domain is poised for growth, with the Czech Republic project setting a precedent for future endeavors.
