Seoul: South Korea’s No. 2 mobile carrier, on Wednesday unveiled compensation packages for victims of recent unauthorized mobile payment breaches, including free data and discount vouchers.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the company stated that affected customers will receive 100 gigabytes of data per month for five months, along with a discount voucher valued at 150,000 won (US$104) that can be used towards bill payments or the purchase of a new smartphone.
This announcement follows KT’s previous commitment to waive fees for customers impacted by the breach. The company recently identified 20 illegal micro base station identifications (IDs) suspected of facilitating unauthorized mobile payment breaches within its network. A total of 368 users experienced financial losses amounting to 240 million won (US$167,000).
