KT Wiz Clinches Spot in Korean Series After Defeating NC Dinos

SUWON – In a dramatic turnaround, the KT Wiz secured their place in the Korean Series after a tense 3-2 victory against the NC Dinos on Sunday.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the Wiz’s triumph in Game 5 of the Korea Baseball Organization's second playoff round was highlighted by key performances, including a game-tying two-run double by pinch hitter Kim Min-hyuck in the fifth inning at KT Wiz Park. Park Byung-ho’s double play in the sixth brought in the decisive run, setting the stage for the team's advancement to the championship round.

The series MVP title was awarded to Son Dong-hyun, a reliever who contributed significantly to the victory with two scoreless innings on Sunday. Throughout the five-game series, Son pitched a total of seven shutout innings and allowed a mere three hits, playing in each game.

The Wiz, initially down two games, achieved a remarkable comeback by winning three consecutive matches, including two away games in Changwon, marking only the third occurrence of a reverse sweep in this round of the playoffs. Starting pitcher Wes Benjamin and the bullpen, with Son's leadership, ensured the Dinos were held at bay during the crucial final innings.

Facing the top-seeded LG Twins next, the Wiz enters the Korean Series, which starts at Jamsil Baseball Stadium in Seoul, aiming for their second title following their inaugural win in 2021. The Twins, meanwhile, are on the quest for their first championship since 1994.

The Dinos initiated scoring early on due to consecutive errors by Wiz’s shortstop Kim Sang-su but failed to maintain the lead as the Wiz battled back. Dinos' starter Shin Min-hyeok's initial no-hit effort was thwarted in the fifth, leading to a pivotal moment for the Wiz's comeback.

Despite the loss, Dinos' manager Kang In-kwon recognized the effort and growth of the team, expressing hope for the young players to gain from the season's experiences.
