KT Wiz Secures Wes Benjamin for Third KBO Season

Seoul – The KT Wiz, a team in the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO), announced on Tuesday that they have re-signed left-handed pitcher Wes Benjamin for the upcoming 2024 season. This marks Benjamin's third season with the South Korean baseball team.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Benjamin's new contract is a one-year deal valued at US$1.4 million, a significant increase from the $1 million he earned in 2023. Last season, Benjamin delivered a strong performance with a 15-6 win-loss record and a 3.54 ERA across 29 starts.

Benjamin initially joined the Wiz in the middle of the 2022 season as a replacement for injured pitcher William Cuevas. Following Cuevas' return to the team this year, both pitchers are set to lead the Wiz's rotation in 2024. Wiz General Manager Na Do-hyun expressed confidence in Benjamin, stating, "Benjamin has already proven himself in the KBO. We expect him to be a stabilizing force in our rotation once again next season."

The Wiz have also secured their foreign player lineup for the 2024 season, having re-signed Cuevas and outfielder Mel Rojas Jr., the 2020 MVP who returned to the team after a stint in Japan. KBO rules allow teams to sign up to three foreign players, with no more than two being pitchers.

Benjamin, along with the rest of the Wiz's foreign player trio, is expected to join the team's training camp in February in Busan, a southeastern city in South Korea.
