Lee Highlights South Korea-U.S. Partnership Post Meeting with Bessent

Seoul: President Lee Jae Myung stated that South Korea and the United States are the most important partners supporting each other's growth after his meeting with U.S. Secretary of Treasury Scott Bessent. The meeting took place at Cheong Wa Dae, where Bessent visited for trade discussions with Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng, ahead of the summit between U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Lee shared Bessent's post on X, formerly Twitter, emphasizing the "deep trust and willingness to cooperate" established during their meeting. Despite challenging international conditions, Lee expressed a commitment to collaboration, aiming to foster opportunities and a future of shared prosperity between the two nations.

Bessent, in his X post, expressed gratitude for Lee's hospitality and reaffirmed the strong alliance between the United States and South Korea. He highlighted South Korea's economic performance and reiterated the U.S.'s dedication to enhancing economic cooperation. The discussions also covered issues related to critical minerals and the U.S.-Korea investment agreement.

Lee underscored the importance of maintaining close communication with the U.S., particularly with the Group of 20 presidency transitions. As Seoul prepares to assume the presidency in 2028, Lee vowed that South Korea would play a responsible role in the international community.
