Seoul: President Lee Jae Myung met Britain's Princess Anne on Tuesday, telling her that South Koreans have been waiting for her visit.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the meeting took place at Cheong Wa Dae as Princess Anne, the only daughter of the late Queen Elizabeth II and sister of King Charles III, arrived in South Korea for a three-day visit starting Monday. Her trip aims to promote collaboration between South Korea and Britain.
This visit marks Princess Anne's first return to South Korea in eight years, following her attendance at the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics as a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). President Lee expressed his gratitude to the princess, saying, "South Koreans have been waiting for Princess Anne ... Thank you for your visit."
During the meeting, Lee reflected on the late Queen Elizabeth II's 1999 visit to the historic South Korean city of Andong, mentioning that it is his hometown. Princess Anne discussed her visit earlier Tuesday to HD Hyundai Heavy Industries Co.'s shipyard in Ulsan, highlighting maritime cooperation between South Korea and Britain.
Princess Anne also noted HD Hyundai Heavy Industries' strong connections with British companies, specifically mentioning Rolls-Royce as an example. The previous day, Cheong Wa Dae indicated that the meeting would address promoting friendly cooperation between South Korea and Britain, including high-level exchanges and security situations in major regions.
