Lee Outlines Vision for ‘Absolute Competitiveness’ in Advanced Technologies

Seoul: President Lee Jae Myung announced on Monday the government's commitment to achieving "absolute competitiveness" in advanced technologies as a cornerstone for transforming South Korea into an industrial powerhouse. This pledge was made as President Lee outlined his policy vision and objectives for the second year of his presidency during a press conference commemorating the first anniversary of his inauguration on June 4 last year.

According to Yonhap News Agency, President Lee emphasized the mobilization of all government and private-sector resources to secure dominance in the advanced technology sector. He revealed plans for a large-scale investment project designed to significantly shift the country's growth strategy. The president highlighted the importance of exploring new sectors, beyond the semiconductor industry, to identify future growth engines.

President Lee stressed that the "fruits of growth" should benefit a wide range of stakeholders, rather than being confined to specific companies, regions, or industries. He advocated for the broad distribution of opportunities and results generated from community resources to include small and medium-sized enterprises, startups, and various regions across the nation, ensuring that all citizens experience the positive impacts of growth.

Additionally, President Lee committed to a firm crackdown on irregularities and injustices, targeting issues such as stock price manipulation and real estate-related crimes. He also vowed to pursue consistent structural reforms to dismantle entrenched interests.

In terms of national security, President Lee expressed his determination to achieve "concrete results" in the pursuit of nuclear-powered submarines and the transfer of wartime operational control from Washington. He reiterated the government's steadfast dedication to promoting peace and security on the Korean Peninsula, as well as fostering peaceful coexistence and shared prosperity with North Korea.
