Seoul: President Lee Jae Myung vowed Wednesday to make South Korea one of the world's most promising investment destinations, saying the Korean market remains "undervalued" and has strong potential for further growth. Lee made the remarks during a roundtable meeting at Cheong Wa Dae with seven foreign chambers of commerce, including the American Chamber of Commerce in Korea (AMCHAM), and senior executives of key foreign-invested firms.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Lee emphasized South Korea's commitment to creating an objective environment conducive to investment. "We will create an objective environment to make South Korea the world's top investment destination," he asserted, urging trust in the South Korean government. Lee highlighted a record high in foreign investment last year, with the country receiving around $36 billion in foreign direct investment (FDI) pledges in 2025, marking a 4.3 percent increase from the previous year.
Lee assured the business community that their expectations for the Korean market will not end in disappointment. He emphasized the market's untapped potential, citing exceptional human capital and robust physical fundamentals. Addressing geopolitical uncertainties, Lee reassured that the administration will strive to avoid unnecessary military tensions with North Korea, even if it requires "some concessions." He stressed the importance of maintaining regional stability to alleviate concerns over geopolitical risks.
Additionally, Lee pledged efforts to enhance corporate governance transparency and ensure fairness in the stock market, aiming to create a more appealing and reliable investment climate for foreign investors.
