Seoul: President Lee Jae Myung on Monday called for swift measures to minimize damage from torrential rains that battered the country's southern region. Lee made the call as heavy downpours pounded South Gyeongsang Province, including Geoje, since the weekend, triggering a landslide that killed a resident.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Lee expressed his concern over the devastation caused by the heavy rains in Geoje and other southern regions through a post on X. He urged local authorities and relevant ministries to promptly take all necessary measures and mobilize available resources to mitigate the impact. Emphasizing the urgency, Lee offered condolences for the resident's death and highlighted that preventing further damage should be the top priority.
Furthermore, President Lee pressed the authorities to take preemptive action against potential risks from the inclement weather. He warned that elevated river levels could lead to additional damage even after the rain subsides, underlining the need for continued vigilance and readiness to tackle any emerging threats.
