Gyeongju: President Lee Jae Myung announced that South Korea will persist in implementing preemptive measures to alleviate military tension and foster trust with North Korea to advance peace on the Korean Peninsula. Lee made these comments during the closing ceremony of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit held in the southeastern city of Gyeongju.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Lee emphasized that military confrontation, tension, and nuclear issues have hindered stability and cooperation not only on the Korean Peninsula but throughout the entire Asia-Pacific region. He articulated South Korea's aim to usher in a new era on the Korean Peninsula characterized by peaceful coexistence and mutual prosperity, underpinned by the principle of resolving issues through dialogue.
Lee highlighted that South Korea has already undertaken preemptive actions to mitigate military tensions and rebuild trust between the two Koreas. He committed to continuing and expanding these efforts to further advance peace on the peninsula.
