Seoul: President Lee Jae Myung announced his commitment to eradicate transnational crimes, specifically targeting voice phishing schemes aimed at South Koreans. Lee shared his determination on social media, accompanied by a video depicting the arrest of a scam ring in Kazakhstan, achieved through a collaborative effort with Kazakh authorities.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the Korean National Police Agency reported that a governmentwide special task force on transnational crimes successfully apprehended 14 members of the South Korean scam ring. The operation took place in Almaty, Kazakhstan, on July 23, highlighting a significant victory in the fight against international fraud. President Lee expressed his appreciation to Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and local authorities for their crucial role in dismantling the large-scale voice phishing network.
In addition to combatting voice phishing, President Lee is also targeting scalping activities. He shared a news report detailing the arrest of a scalper who amassed several billion won by purchasing and reselling tickets to idol performances, concerts by foreign artists, and sporting events at inflated prices. Lee emphasized the need to eliminate scalping crimes, ensuring that all illicit gains are confiscated and reaffirming his commitment to ensuring fair opportunities for event attendance.
