Lee’s Approval Rating Rebounds to 53 Percent Amid Tariff Deal with U.S.

Gyeongju: President Lee Jae Myung's approval rating has seen a notable rebound, reaching 53 percent, following the successful finalization of a tariff agreement with the United States. This marks the first increase in his approval rating in three weeks, as revealed by a recent survey.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the survey conducted by Realmeter, which was commissioned by a local news outlet, indicates a 1.8 percentage point increase in positive assessments of President Lee's performance from the previous week. Concurrently, the negative assessments have decreased by 1.6 percentage points, now standing at 43.3 percent.

Realmeter has attributed this upward trend in approval to President Lee's pragmatic diplomatic efforts. This includes the recent tariff deal reached with U.S. President Donald Trump during their summit held on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) gathering in Gyeongju. Additionally, the pollster highlighted positive economic indicators, notably the Korea Composite Stock Price Index surpassing the 4,000 mark for the first time last week.

The survey, conducted on a sample of 2,517 adults from Monday to Friday last week, has a margin of error of plus or minus 2 percentage points and a confidence rate of 95 percent.

In another survey by Realmeter, carried out on 1,004 individuals aged 18 and over on Thursday and Friday, the approval rating for the ruling Democratic Party increased by 1.3 percentage points to reach 45.4 percent. Meanwhile, support for the main opposition People Power Party rose by 0.6 percentage points to 37.9 percent, marking the third consecutive week of increase. This poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percentage points, with a confidence rate of 95 percent.
