Seoul: President Lee Jae Myung's approval rating rebounded last week, driven by positive assessment of his livelihood-related measures in response to escalating tensions in the Middle East, a survey showed Monday.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the survey by Realmeter commissioned by a local news outlet revealed that 58.2 percent of respondents gave a positive assessment of Lee's job performance, marking an increase of 1.1 percentage points from the previous week. The negative assessment of Lee's performance decreased by 1.1 percentage points, bringing it down to 37.1 percent.
Realmeter attributed the rebound to President Lee's decisive actions following the U.S.-Israel attack on Iran. This included implementing a 100 trillion-won (US$68.3 billion) financial package aimed at stabilizing the stock market and introducing an oil price cap system, as the conflict in the Middle East intensifies.
The latest survey was conducted on 2,004 adults from Tuesday through Friday and has a margin of error of plus or minus 2.2 percentage points, with a confidence level of 95 percent.
In a separate survey conducted by the same pollster on 1,001 individuals aged 18 and over on Thursday and Friday, the approval rating for the ruling Democratic Party saw an increase of 1 percentage point from a week earlier, reaching 48.1 percent. Conversely, the approval rating for the main opposition People Power Party fell by 1.4 percentage points, settling at 32.4 percent. This poll also has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percentage points, with a confidence level of 95 percent.
