LG Electronics Set to Enter U.S. Electric Vehicle Charger Market in 2024

SEOUL, - LG Electronics Inc., a major South Korean electronics company, announced on Thursday its plan to launch electric vehicle (EV) chargers in the United States in the first half of 2024. This move marks LG's strategic entry into the rapidly growing EV charging solutions sector.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the company will offer a range of chargers, including 11-kilowatt wall-mounted and stand-type slow chargers, as well as 175 kW fast-charging models. The 11 kW units are designed with a load management solution, which automatically adjusts the output based on the power availability in commercial spaces like shopping malls and supermarkets. This feature ensures stable, high-quality charging services, even in areas with limited power capacity.

Additionally, the fast-charging model is compatible with both the Combined Charging Standard version 1 and North American Charging Standard connectors. This dual compatibility is intended to provide a more convenient charging experience for customers across different EV models.

LG Electronics is planning to expand its EV charger lineup in the latter half of 2024 to cater to the diverse needs of U.S. customers, focusing on chargers suitable for commercial use and long-distance travel.

The company's foray into the EV charging solutions market began in 2018 and gained momentum in 2022 when LG acquired HiEV Charger, a South Korean developer of electric vehicle battery chargers previously known as AppleMango. This acquisition is part of LG's broader strategy to enhance its business portfolio and create synergies with its EV components division, which is seen as a key driver of the company's future growth.

The move by LG Electronics into the U.S. EV charger market reflects the company's adaptation to the evolving automotive industry and its increasing focus on electric vehicles and related infrastructure.
