SEOUL - The LG Twins have announced that veteran pitcher Casey Kelly will make his final appearance in the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) during Saturday's game against the Doosan Bears, concluding his stint with the defending Korean Series champions.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the decision to part ways with Kelly was made public on Saturday. Kelly, who has been with the Twins since 2019, is the longest-serving foreign player in the league this season and in the history of the Twins franchise. His departure marks the end of an era for both Kelly and the team.
Kelly's tenure with the Twins included significant achievements, such as leading the team to its first championship in 29 years during the 2023 Korean Series. Throughout his time in the KBO, he topped the pitching leaderboard in wins, starts, innings pitched, and strikeouts. Despite a challenging start in 2024, with a 5-8 record and a 4.51 ERA, Kelly's overall contributions to the team have been substantial.
The farewell game planned for Kelly faced disruptions due to rain, leading to a cancellation after a 99-minute delay, with Kelly having pitched 2 2/3 shutout innings. Manager Youm emphasized Kelly's lasting impact on the team, stating that Kelly's legacy will continue and he might even return as a spring training instructor after retirement.
