SEOUL — A minor earthquake of magnitude 2.3 was recorded in the lower western part of North Korea, authorities reported.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the earthquake occurred Monday night at 9:56 p.m., striking approximately 23 kilometers northeast-east of Songlim, in North Hwanghae Province. The epicenter was pinpointed at 38.78 degrees north latitude and 125.89 degrees east longitude, with a depth of 14 kilometers. Officials indicated that the quake was of natural origin and posed no risk of damage, especially being distant from the Punggye-ri nuclear test site in the country's northeast.
