‘Moana’ Tops South Korea’s Weekend Box Office with Impressive Debut

Seoul: The Hollywood live-action movie "Moana" soared to the top of South Korea's weekend box-office chart in its debut week, as reported by official data released on Monday. The much-anticipated remake of the 2016 Disney animation drew in 403,822 admissions over the weekend, culminating in a total of 511,078 admissions by Sunday.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the Korean Film Council's data, which tracks admissions from Friday through Sunday, confirmed "Moana's" successful opening. Meanwhile, the Korean mystery thriller "The Eyes," starring Shin Min-a, continued its steady performance, ranking second with 257,816 admissions over the weekend and a cumulative total of 1,277,263 admissions.

"Toy Story 5," another Hollywood animation, which had debuted at the top spot in its first week, settled for third place this weekend. The film added 238,524 admissions, bringing its total to 2,580,327.

Other Korean films also made notable appearances on the chart. The zombie thriller "Colony" secured the fifth spot with 37,008 admissions, while the K-pop comedy "Wild Sing" ranked seventh, attracting 12,321 admissions, as per the data.
