N. Korea Alleges S. Korean Drone Incursion from Border Island in Yellow Sea

SEOUL: North Korea has accused South Korea of orchestrating a drone incursion into its airspace, claiming a drone that crashed in Pyongyang earlier this month originated from a South Korean border island. The North Korean defense ministry insists that the South Korean military was responsible for the alleged drone operations, which reportedly involved dispersing anti-North Korea propaganda in the skies above Pyongyang. According to Yonhap News Agency, North Korea's analysis of the flight log of the downed drone revealed its takeoff from Baengnyeong Island in the Yellow Sea on October 8. The drone's flight path reportedly included dispersing "political motivational rubbish" over key locations in Pyongyang, such as near the foreign ministry and the defense ministry buildings, before attempting to return to its point of origin. The Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported that North Korea's defense ministry presented an illustration detailing the drone's flight route. The path, depicted as a green line, indi cated the drone's incursion into North Korean airspace, tracing a clockwise trajectory along the western coastline before reaching Pyongyang. A spokesperson from North Korea's defense ministry condemned the actions of the South Korean military, labeling them as provocative and irresponsible. The North further issued a stern warning, suggesting that any future violations of its airspace could result in severe retaliation. In response, South Korea's military stated it could not verify the veracity of North Korea's claims. Seoul's defense ministry has cautioned that any aggressive action from the North could lead to significant consequences, including potential threats to the North Korean regime's stability.
