N. Korea Asserts Readiness to Counter Threats to Eurasian Security

Minsk: North Korea is prepared to respond to all threats to the Eurasian continent, the country’s top diplomat stated at a regional security conference in Minsk, Belarus. Foreign Minister Choe Son-hui made these comments while attending the Third Minsk International Conference on Eurasian Security for the first time.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Choe emphasized the growing importance of security in the Eurasian region during her speech. She described the conference as a significant political forum for nations pursuing independence and peace. Choe highlighted the unprecedented challenges facing Eurasian security and asserted North Korea’s readiness to counter any emerging threats.

Choe criticized the North Atlantic Treaty Organization for attempting to contain Russia and accused South Korea, the United States, and Japan of escalating tensions through trilateral cooperation. She remarked that global security has been destabilized, primarily due to the actions of the United States, noting the instability on the Korean Peninsula and in Northeast Asia.

The foreign minister expressed concern over military exercises targeting North Korea, including potential nuclear scenarios, which she claimed pose a threat to the peninsula’s security. Quoting North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, she reiterated the country’s commitment to peace and security both within the Korean Peninsula and beyond, emphasizing North Korea’s dedication to sovereignty and fundamental interests.

Choe stated that the North Korean government aims to maintain amicable relations globally in the pursuit of justice and independence, and is ready to contribute to the development of a multipolar world. The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, as North Korea is officially known, values these principles.

Choe’s visit to Minsk followed her trip to Moscow, where she met with Russian President Vladimir Putin to strengthen bilateral ties. Her overseas engagements coincide with South Korea’s hosting of Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation events, attended by U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Amid Trump’s calls for a meeting with Kim Jong-un during his Asia visit, North Korea has yet to respond to the dialogue proposal, maintaining silence on the matter.
