N. Korea Briefly Reports on Women’s Football Team’s AFC Final Bid

Pyongyang: North Korea's state media on Thursday briefly reported on its women's football club's advancement to the final of a top Asian club tournament, after beating a South Korean rival.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the North Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) issued a short dispatch covering the semifinal match between "the Naegohyang Team of the DPRK and the Suwon Team of the ROK." The match took place in South Korea the previous day, with the North Korean team securing a 2:1 victory to advance to the final of the Asian Football Confederation Women's Champions League.

This was the first report by KCNA on the team since March 29, when it covered their quarterfinal victory. The recent dispatch did not include certain details about the match, such as the reception of the visiting team by the South Korean crowd or the heavy rain that affected the playing conditions.

The Rodong Sinmun, the official newspaper of the ruling Workers' Party, published photos depicting players competing in the downpour. The Naegohyang Women's FC's triumph over Suwon FC Women took place at Suwon Stadium, located 30 kilometers south of Seoul. With this victory, the North Korean team secured their place in the tournament's final, scheduled for Saturday.
