Pyongyang: North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has overseen a test-firing of strategic cruise missiles from a new destroyer, emphasizing the necessity to bolster naval power, state media reported Thursday.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Kim visited the Choe Hyon on Tuesday and Wednesday to examine its operational capabilities ahead of its commissioning. He supervised the launch of sea-to-surface strategic cruise missiles from the destroyer on Wednesday, considering the test a critical component of the warship's operational capabilities.
In April last year, North Korea introduced the Choe Hyon, a 5,000-ton multipurpose destroyer, as part of its initiatives to strengthen naval power.
