Pyongyang: North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has committed to expanding and deepening "joint work" with Russia, as stated in a recent message to Russian President Vladimir Putin. This announcement comes amidst strengthening military and economic ties between the two nations.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Kim expressed his gratitude to Putin in a reply to the Russian leader's congratulatory message marking North Korea's 78th founding anniversary on September 9. Kim emphasized North Korea's firm intent to enhance collaboration with Russia, underscoring the tradition of friendship, good neighborliness, mutual aid, and robust alliance relations between the two countries.
While Kim did not specify the nature of the "joint work," it is believed to involve increased military and economic cooperation. He highlighted that the two nations are continuously crafting "a new biography of the great history of alliance" amidst an "uneven historical storm" and assured unwavering support for Russia in its conflict with Ukraine.
In June 2024, North Korea and Russia signed a comprehensive strategic partnership treaty during Putin's state visit to Pyongyang. This treaty includes provisions for immediate military assistance if either nation faces an attack. Pyongyang has already dispatched thousands of troops and conventional weapons to aid Russia in its ongoing war with Ukraine.
