Busan: The Navy conducted a counterterrorism exercise in collaboration with police and local government authorities at a major commercial port in Busan, the armed services announced. The exercise took place at Busan New Port, a key hub in the southeastern city known for its high shipping volume.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the drills were led by the Jin Hae Naval Base Command and saw the participation of special operations forces, police, fire, and local government authorities. This exercise was part of the larger Freedom Shield exercise, an 11-day annual springtime event conducted jointly by South Korea and the United States, which began earlier in the week.
Busan New Port plays a crucial role in the country's maritime activities, with approximately 13,000 ships entering annually. The exercise aimed to enhance the coordination and readiness of various agencies in responding to potential terrorist threats at the port.
