No Agreement Reached on Agenda for First Yoon-Lee Meeting

SEOUL — Aides to President Yoon Suk Yeol and opposition leader Lee Jae-myung failed to agree on an agenda for the upcoming meeting between the two leaders, despite a second attempt on Thursday. The talks, aimed at planning what would be the first-ever meeting between Yoon and Lee, were proposed by President Yoon following significant electoral losses for his ruling People Power Party on April 10, which resulted in the National Assembly coming under the control of Lee's Democratic Party.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Yoon's senior political secretary, the president's team proposed a flexible meeting format to facilitate open discussion, but the opposition emphasized the need for a results-oriented agenda. Disagreements persisted over the Democratic Party's demands, which include economic support measures and a special investigation into recent controversies. The failure to reach a consensus during these preparatory talks highlights the deep political divisions and the challenges in bridging these gaps. Further discussions are expected as both sides aim to organize a productive dialogue.
