North Korea Celebrates Workers’ Party Anniversary with Modest Festivities

Pyongyang:North Korea marked the 81st founding anniversary of the Workers' Party of Korea with a celebration performance attended by leader Kim Jong-un, as reported by state media on Sunday.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the event held at Pyongyang Indoor Stadium featured patriotic songs, acrobatics, and dance, emphasizing loyalty to the party and Kim Jong-un. The Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) highlighted Kim's presence, noting he waved to the audience as a gesture of congratulations to all participants and expressed satisfaction with the performance.

Diplomatic envoys and members of foreign missions joined senior party and military officials, as well as Pyongyang citizens, in attending the event. The performance concluded a series of anniversary events and gatherings that were modest in scale compared to past celebrations.

North Korea often reserves larger celebrations for anniversaries ending in zero or five, which typically include military parades, mass gymnastic displays, and weapons exhibitions. Last year, a significant late-night military parade at Kim Il Sung Square showcased the Hwasong-20 intercontinental ballistic missile.

In a separate report, KCNA mentioned that party officials visited the Party Founding Museum, where they were briefed on Kim's October 2025 visit to the museum, although the timing of the visit was not specified. The report added that Kim is leading a new era of party building and national rejuvenation.
