SAINT-DENIS, FRANCE — North Korea secured its first-ever Olympic diving medal on Wednesday when divers Jo Jin-mi and Kim Mi-rae won silver in the women’s synchronized 10-meter platform at the Paris Olympics.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Jo and Kim recorded a total of 315.90 points, placing second to China’s Chen Yuxi and Quan Hongchan, who dominated with 359.10 points. This marks North Korea’s second medal at these Games, following a silver in mixed doubles table tennis. Kim Mi-rae, who narrowly missed a medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics, expressed satisfaction with this year’s outcome, emphasizing the rigorous training back home. Jo, at her first Olympics, shared her ambition to aim for gold in future competitions. Notably, the pair chose not to respond to questions from South Korean media after their event.
