North Korean Generals and Troops Potentially Moving to Ukrainian Front Lines, Reports South Korean Spy Agency.

SEOUL: Some North Korean generals and troops dispatched to Russia might have relocated to the battlefield zones in Ukraine, South Korea's spy agency disclosed to lawmakers on Tuesday. This revelation was made during a closed-door session conducted by the parliamentary intelligence committee. According to Yonhap News Agency, the information was shared by the National Intelligence Service (NIS) with lawmakers, including Rep. Lee Seong-kweun of the ruling People Power Party and Rep. Park Sun-won of the main opposition Democratic Party. The move is seen as part of North Korea's support for Moscow's ongoing war efforts in Ukraine. In a separate development, the NIS also reported heightened security measures in North Korea for its leader, Kim Jong-un. The increased security is attributed to concerns over a potential assassination attempt, as discussed in the same parliamentary audit session. Meanwhile, in Beijing, China's foreign ministry confirmed the detention of a South Korean citizen on suspicion of violati ng China's anti-espionage law. This marks the first such arrest of a South Korean national, with the South Korean Embassy in Beijing already notified of the incident, according to Lin Jian, a spokesperson at China's foreign ministry. In domestic developments, the South Korean government and the ruling People Power Party (PPP) have agreed to advocate for the passage of a special bill supporting the semiconductor industry. The bill, which is expected to pass by the end of the current parliamentary session in December, aims to provide tax, financial, and infrastructure support to the semiconductor sector. It also proposes the establishment of a special committee to oversee the industry.
