PYONGYANG — A delegation from North Korea's premier military education institution, Kim Il Sung Military University, has embarked on a trip to Russia, signaling a further deepening of military ties between Pyongyang and Moscow, according to state-run media reports on Tuesday.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the delegation is led by Kim Kum-chol, president of the military university, and departed for Russia on Monday. The state media's brief report did not disclose specific details regarding the delegation's itinerary or the objectives of their visit. This trip is notably the first publicly acknowledged visit by North Korean military officials to Russia following the defense pact signed between North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and Russian President Vladimir Putin. The agreement pledges military support between the two nations should either face an attack. Kim Il Sung Military University, named after the country's late founder, serves as a crucial training ground for North Korean military officers, including leader Kim Jong-un, who studied there after his time in Switzerland.
