LE BOURGET—Lee Do-hyun, a promising medal contender in sport climbing, has been eliminated from the finals at the Paris Olympics after a disappointing performance in the men’s combined event. The competition took place on Wednesday at the Le Bourget Sport Climbing Venue, located north of Paris.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Lee finished 17th in the lead semifinal, managing to score only 12.0 points. This was a significant drop from his 10th place finish in Monday’s bouldering semifinal where he earned 34.0 points. Overall, his combined score of 46.0 placed him 15th among 20 climbers, missing the cut for the top eight who advanced to the final. Sorato Anraku of Japan, who is ranked world No. 1 in both bouldering and lead, led the field with a total of 137.0 points.
Lee, who is ranked third worldwide in bouldering and tenth in lead climbing, expressed his frustrations with his performance. "Physically, I felt fine. There was a spot where other climbers had fallen from, and I dropped from the same spot," he noted. "I should have concentrated harder." The 21-year-old, who was the silver medalist at the 2023 Asian Games, was competing in his first Olympic Games. He shared his disappointment but remained hopeful about the future, stating, "I am disappointed that I didn't get to show everything I had at the Olympics. I had been enjoying this competition until I fell. I will try to be back even stronger."
