Seoul:A special counsel team has requested a one-year prison term for a lawmaker from the main opposition People Power Party, accused of gifting a luxury bag to former first lady Kim Keon Hee.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Rep. Kim Gi-hyeon and his wife allegedly gave a Roger Vivier clutch bag to the former first lady in March 2023, in exchange for her support for Kim's election as party leader earlier that month.
The special counsel, led by Min Joong-ki, also sought a six-month prison term for Kim Gi-hyeon's wife. The couple faced trial at the Seoul Central District Court for allegedly violating anti-graft laws.
Rep. Kim has admitted that his wife gave the bag but denied any improper solicitation. The former first lady, already convicted in separate corruption cases, confirmed receiving the bag last month, stating it was not handed to her directly.
