Opposition Lawmakers Hit with Raw Eggs During Anti-Yoon Event

Seoul: Two opposition lawmakers were struck with raw eggs during an outdoor press conference on Thursday, which was organized to demand the removal of impeached President Yoon Suk Yeol from office. The lawmakers, representing the main opposition Democratic Party (DP), were speaking outside the Constitutional Court when eggs were thrown at them from across the street, hitting DP Representatives Back Hye-ryun and Lee Geon-tae.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency responded by launching a search for the individual responsible for the egg assault. In a press statement, the police announced the formation of a task force led by the detective division head of Jongno Police Station. The police emphasized their commitment to a swift and thorough investigation, leveraging video analysis and other methods to identify and track down the perpetrator.

The incident escalated as police reported that the suspect also hurled bananas during the press conference. While the law prohibits rallies within a 100-meter radius of the Constitutional Court, press conferences and solo protests are permitted. President Yoon's supporters have been conducting numerous one-person protests, simulating the effect of larger rallies.

In response to the growing tension, police deployed riot officers to manage the crowd and issued warnings that any individuals engaging in verbal or physical assaults against police officers would face immediate detention.
