Padres’ Kim Ha-seong Returns to Seoul with a Hit in Exhibition Game

SEOUL — San Diego Padres shortstop Kim Ha-seong marked his return to Seoul with a base hit during an exhibition game against the South Korean national team at Gocheok Sky Dome, contributing to his team's narrow 1-0 victory.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Kim, returning to his former home stadium where he played five seasons with the Kiwoom Heroes of the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO), experienced a mix of results. He batted 1-for-4, with a single in the third inning that advanced a runner to third base, though the team was unable to score from the opportunity.

Kim received a warm reception from the local fans as he stepped up to bat for the first time, reflecting his popularity and the significance of his return. However, his initial at-bat against starting pitcher Moon Dong-ju resulted in a pop-out in a critical situation with bases loaded. His following at-bats included a strikeout and another pop-out against subsequent pitchers.

Despite the mixed results at the plate, Kim showcased his defensive skills, highlighted by a smoothly executed play in the third inning, reinforcing his reputation following a Gold Glove win in 2023 as the first Asian infielder to receive the award in that category.

This game is part of a series of events leading up to the historic Seoul Series, where the Padres will face the Los Angeles Dodgers. Kim Ha-seong's participation has been a focal point due to his significant contributions and rising fame in Major League Baseball.
