SEOUL — The legislation and judiciary committee of the parliament decided on Wednesday to conduct a hearing next month regarding the impeachment of a senior prosecutor allegedly involved in mishandling investigations linked to first lady Kim Keon Hee's stock manipulation case.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the hearing for Kim Young-cheol of the Seoul Northern District Prosecutors Office is set for August 14. The decision came after the main opposition Democratic Party (DP) pushed through the motion during the committee's plenary meeting, despite the absence of lawmakers from the ruling People Power Party (PPP), who boycotted the vote. The opposition accuses Prosecutor Kim of failing to thoroughly investigate the first lady’s connections with Deutsch Motors Inc., a major BMW dealership in South Korea. Additionally, the DP plans to call the first lady to testify at the hearing, intensifying the scrutiny of her alleged involvement.
