PGA Tour Veteran Kim Si-woo Eyes Victory as Playoffs Near Conclusion

St. louis: PGA Tour veteran Kim Si-woo is determined to end his winless streak as he competes in the final stretch of the annual PGA Tour playoffs. Facing elite competition in the remaining tournaments, the South Korean golfer is keenly aware of the limited opportunities left to secure a victory in 2026.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Kim expressed confidence in a video conference with South Korean media, emphasizing his high level of self-belief. He is set to pursue his first win since January 2023 at the BMW Championship, which begins Thursday at Bellerive Country Club in St. Louis. The championship is the second of three tournaments in the FedEx Cup playoffs.

Despite not securing a win this year, Kim's performance has been noteworthy. He is ranked fourth in the FedEx Cup points standings, the highest for a winless player in 2026. His consistency is evident with 11 top-10 finishes, including three runner-up positions. Kim also leads the tour with 60 under-par rounds and 49 rounds below 70.

Kim acknowledged his strong season performance, rating himself nine out of ten, but expressed his desire for a title. "My goal every season is to notch at least one victory, and it has been a bit disappointing and frustrating that I have not won since 2023," he stated. With only two playoff events remaining, Kim remains hopeful that maintaining his current form will lead to success.

His improved gameplay, attributed to mastering various shot types and strategies, has contributed to his consistency. Kim noted, "I have become so much better this year at playing conservatively at times but also getting aggressive when I needed to."

The BMW Championship features the top 50 players in FedEx Cup points, and Kim is poised for a spot in next week's Tour Championship, reserved for the top 30 players. He welcomed the new format of the Tour Championship, which eliminates the "starting strokes" advantage for higher-ranked players, providing a level playing field.

"Everyone will have a chance to win, even the guys that are lower in the standings, and I think it is a much fairer setup," Kim remarked, expressing his commitment to giving his all in the upcoming events.
