Polish Defense Delegation Explores Further Arms Deals in South Korea

SEOUL – A Polish defense delegation has initiated discussions in South Korea, exploring potential new arms agreements, following a series of significant procurements last year. The state arms procurement agency announced that the 20-member delegation began their engagements on Sunday, marking the first high-level visit since Poland's Prime Minister Donald Tusk took office.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the delegation, led by Deputy Defense Minister Pawel Bejda and Deputy Minister of State Assets Marcin Kulasek, engaged with South Korean officials to discuss expanding defense industry cooperation. In 2022, Poland had secured deals worth approximately US$12.4 billion for Korean military hardware, including tanks, howitzers, and aircraft, amidst growing security concerns due to the Russia-Ukraine conflict. The current visit could potentially lead to another round of deals valued at around 30 trillion won, with South Korea considering financial support options for Poland. The delegation's itinerary includes visits to key defense manufacturers and military demonstrations, notably a test firing of the Chunmoo rocket system, tailored for the Polish market.
