President Lee Calls for South Korea to Lead in Global Green Transformation

Seoul:President Lee Jae Myung highlighted the importance of South Korea taking a leading role in the global green transformation on Wednesday, identifying it as crucial for strengthening the nation's competitiveness and addressing the climate crisis.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Lee made these remarks during a meeting in Seoul that detailed the government's Korea Green Transformation (K-GX) strategy. He emphasized that the climate crisis is an immediate threat, stating it is "no longer a concern of the distant future but a reality threatening the survival of mankind."

Lee outlined that pioneering the green market is vital for Seoul to maintain its advantage in high-tech industries. This leadership is also necessary for the success of the government's "three megaprojects" initiative, which focuses on national transformation through semiconductors, physical artificial intelligence (AI), and AI data centers.

The meeting saw participation from significant industry figures, including SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won, and representatives from Hanwha Qcells, POSCO Holdings, Samsung Electronics Co., and LG Electronics Inc.

The green transformation strategy is part of what President Lee referred to as a "K-Initiative," a vision he presented at the United Nations General Assembly in New York last month. In his speech, he committed to overhauling South Korea's industrial framework to achieve carbon neutrality and foster new job opportunities.
