Incheon:President Lee Jae Myung pledged to focus on improving people's livelihoods, pursuing reforms, and promoting national unity as he approaches his 500th day in office.
According to Yonhap News Agency, President Lee emphasized the importance of maintaining these policy priorities without being swayed by external influences. He highlighted the need for practical reforms and inclusive national unity, while acknowledging that despite unprecedented success in the national economy, people's everyday lives remain challenging.
President Lee noted the country's remarkable economic achievements, predicting that if current trends continue, the nation could become the sixth with a per capita income of $40,000, among those with populations over 50 million. However, he stressed that the benefits of economic growth should be felt in daily life, urging aides to focus on policies addressing housing, employment, and financial difficulties.
Additionally, the president called for the establishment of a special response body to combat crimes targeting both random individuals and acquaintances. This follows recent high-profile incidents, including a stabbing spree in Incheon and a domestic attack in which a man killed his mother-in-law and kidnapped his wife. Lee urged officials to work with a determination to "declare war" on such violent crimes and to create a comprehensive government response to ensure societal safety.
