Nagoya: President Lee Jae Myung expressed his support for the South Korean team as the 20th edition of the Asian Games opened with a grand ceremony in Nagoya, Japan.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, the largest sporting event in Asia, began a 16-day sports festival featuring athletes from 45 nations. These competitors will vie for 469 gold medals across 43 sports and 71 disciplines.
President Lee conveyed his encouragement for the South Korean athletes through his X account, stating, "I cheer on the South Korean team in their spirited challenge. Athletes, now you begin. Show fully what you are capable of, trusting in the sweat and hard work you have put in to wear the national flag on your chest." He further emphasized that all Koreans will be supporting the national team, urging the athletes to compete safely and return home without injuries.
The South Korean team consists of 1,052 members, and President Lee assured them of the nation's unwavering support, promising to cheer for their success alongside the public.
