Seoul – President Yoon Suk Yeol made an unannounced appearance at the “Heroes of Paris” event in Yeouido on Friday, where he expressed his support and admiration for South Korea’s Olympic athletes, the presidential office disclosed.
According to Yonhap News Agency, President Yoon shook hands with the athletes and praised their resilience and achievements, noting how their performances brought “immense joy, courage, and confidence to the public.” He shared personal anecdotes of watching the games, highlighting his excitement during the archery competitions, particularly the shoot-off that led Kim Woo-jin to a gold medal victory.
In a lighter moment, when questioned about which sport he would choose to compete in, Yoon reminisced about his affinity for basketball, soccer, and baseball from his younger days, expressing a hypothetical preference for baseball. He further metaphorically connected sports to his presidential duties, stating, “If I were to win a gold medal as president, I would want to earn it for stabilizing people’s livelihoods and strengthening national security,” emphasizing his commitment to key national issues.
The event, hosted by Korean Broadcasting System (KBS) at an outdoor park, celebrated Team Korea’s successful campaign at the recently concluded Paris Summer Olympics, where the nation secured a total of 32 medals, including 13 golds.
