CHANGWON—President Yoon Suk Yeol has spent part of his summer vacation visiting a significant naval base in Changwon, located 310 kilometers southeast of Seoul, as reported by his office on Wednesday. The visit, which lasted two days, aimed to reinforce his support for the military and highlight the importance of national security.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Yoon actively engaged with service members during his stay, participating in a basketball game with Navy personnel and Marines. This engagement follows his dinner on Tuesday night with members of the military who had served during significant recent conflicts with North Korea, including the sinking of a South Korean warship in March 2010 and the bombardment of a border island in November of the same year.
During his visit, President Yoon emphasized the critical link between strong national security measures and overall economic stability. "A strong national security posture not only protects the Republic of Korea from North Korea, but it also helps the economy," he stated. He also stressed the need for strategic and security cooperation with international allies to ensure broad support for South Korea in times of crisis.
