Russia Protests South Korean Sanctions, Summons Ambassador

MOSCOW – In a significant diplomatic move, Russia has summoned South Korea’s ambassador to express strong disapproval of recent sanctions imposed by Seoul, as reported by Russia’s Sputnik news agency.

The conflict stems from South Korea’s recent sanctions against two Russian individuals and their associated entities, accused of facilitating the overseas employment of North Korean IT workers in violation of international norms. Additionally, Seoul targeted two Russian ships implicated in transporting military supplies between Pyongyang and Moscow. These actions prompted a sharp response from the Russian government.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrey Rudenko met with South Korea’s Ambassador to Moscow, Lee Do-hoon, to voice Moscow’s objections. Russia labeled Seoul’s measures as “another unfriendly step,” signaling a deepening rift between the two nations.

Moreover, the Russian government urged South Korea to reconsider its approach, advocating for the abandonment of what it perceives as counterproductive sanctions. Moscow’s call to Seoul aims to mitigate rising tensions on the Korean Peninsula, emphasizing diplomacy over punitive actions.
