Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov Holds Hour-Long Meeting with North Korean Leader in Pyongyang

Seoul, South Korea — Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov met with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un during a visit to Pyongyang, according to a statement released by Moscow's foreign ministry on Thursday.

Yonhap News Agency reported that the meeting lasted for more than an hour, although further details were not provided. Lavrov arrived in North Korea on Wednesday, accepting an invitation from Pyongyang's foreign ministry. The visit serves as a follow-up to the rare summit between Kim Jong-un and Russian President Vladimir Putin on September 13. The diplomatic engagement comes as the two nations are reportedly strengthening military ties amid speculation about a potential arms deal.
