Seoul: South Korea and the United States have conducted their first joint tabletop exercise to address foreign disinformation campaigns during wartime, military sources revealed on Sunday. The event took place at the South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) headquarters in Yongsan, involving the participation of both nations' forces and key allied commands.
According to Yonhap News Agency, South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff, United States Forces Korea (USFK), the United Nations Command, and the South Korea-U.S. Combined Forces Command were actively involved in the exercise. The initiative included various South Korean government agencies, such as the defense, foreign, and culture ministries, representing a comprehensive government approach to tackling disinformation.
The exercise aimed to synchronize operations within the information environment, as highlighted in a USFK press release. It concentrated on three primary areas: countering foreign disinformation, coordinating allied responses across different domains, and aligning strategic communications.
USFK emphasized the importance of the ROK-U.S. Alliance's ability to maneuver decisively in the information environment, considering it a strategic priority. The joint effort underscores the commitment of both nations to address the challenges posed by disinformation in modern warfare.
